Canes Rowing Sweeps Pair of Races at Head of the Indian Creek

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s rowing team opened the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule on a high note as its “A” boats won the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 races at the Head of the Indian Creek.

The Hurricanes’ “A” boat captured the Varsity 8 race in a time of 14:03, defeating teams from Stetson, Barry and Nova Southeastern.

In the afternoon Varsity 4 race, Miami’s “A” boat also shined, as it posted a winning time of 15:15.

“It was great to get on the water and race today,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “We’ve had some great training going on that was interrupted by a Hurricane, but it hasn’t fazed the team. We’ve got a great group of people that are on the team right now, who are working really well together, so it was nice to see them race and just have some fun while doing it.”

The annual Head of the Indian Creek regatta was held on the Hurricanes’ 4-kilometer course on the scenic Indian Creek. The Miami Beach Rowing Club played host to the event.

“The conditions on the water were great today and it was just a great day for a couple of races,” Sanderson said.

Miami returns to action on Nov. 12, as it travels to the Rivana Romp its final regatta of the fall in Rivana, Va. The University of Virginia will play host to the event.

The spring session of racing begins with a two-day trip to Oak Ridge, Tenn., where Miami heads to the Cardinal Invitational beginning on March 17.
