Miami Men’s Tennis Inks Three During Fall Signing Period

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team welcomed three new members to the program with the signing of three international student-athletes in Franco Aubone, Francisco Bastias and Kaya Gore.
 
Head coach Aljosa Piric believes all three can make an immediate impact to the squad next season.
 
“We are very excited about the incoming class of freshmen,” Piric said. “They will fit well into our culture, and will play a significant role in the future building of our program. I am very happy to welcome them into our Hurricane family.” 
 
All three future Hurricanes are ranked in the top 150 of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior World Rankings.
 
Aubone, who hails from San Juan, Argentina, is ranked No. 141 in the ITF Junior World Rankings. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranks him No. 1,509 in singles competition and No. 1,590 in doubles rankings. Throughout his singles career, Aubone has posted a 40-19 mark, while owning a doubles record of 44-13. Aubone has posted tournament victories at a pair of Grade 2 doubles tournaments in Uruguay and Ecuador. In addition, Aubone captured a singles tournament title at a Grade 4 event in Chile. Aubone also tallied a career-high Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 13.69.
 
Bastias comes to The U following an impressive junior career, in which he posted an impressive singles career record of 37-15 and a doubles mark of 27-13 en route to earning a No. 78 ITF Junior World Ranking. The Mendoza, Argentina, native also has tallied impressive showings at a Grade 2 tournament in Uruguay (semifinalist) and a Grade 1 event in Mexico (quarterfinalist). His career-best 13.89 UTR is the highest among this year’s class.
 
Gore comes to Miami with the best ITF Junior World Rank of anyone in this year’s signing class (No. 56). The Izmir, Turkey, native also ranks in the ATP singles (No. 1,532) and doubles (No. 1,564) rankings. In addition, Gore posted a career-best UTR of 13.62. He posted a winning performance at a Grade 2 tournament in Egypt. Gore also was a semifinalist during another Grade 2 event in Egypt. Over the course of his career, Gore has compiled a 72-46 career in junior tournaments.
