Men’s Cross Country Regionally Ranked

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s cross country team was ranked 15th in the South Region in the first NCAA Division I Cross Country Men’s Region Rankings, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCCA).

The Hurricanes appeared in the region rankings for the first time in program history after a strong start to their 2017 season. Miami’s men won the FAU Invitational with a team score of 37 points.

“I very proud of what the men were able to accomplish,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “We missed another opportunity to showcase ourselves last Friday due to the storm, but we will have a chance to compete against some teams in the upcoming weeks that are ahead of us in the polls.”

Miami’s Nathan Kuck was the men’s individual champion at the FAU Invitational, while Sean Grossman finished second to give the Canes the top two male finishers at the season-opening race. Adam George, Dylan Sykes and Jacob Triarsi rounded out the Hurricanes’ top five men that combined for the team victory.

The Hurricanes were set to host the Miami Duals on Sept. 8. However, due to the impending Hurricane Irma, the University cancelled all athletic events that weekend. Miami is back in action on Sept. 23 at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
