Canes Golf Opens Competition at the 2017 Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team opened the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule Saturday afternoon, as it began competition at the Schooner Fall Classic.

The Hurricanes are currently tied for sixth place after they fired a first round score of 287.

This year’s event is being held at the par 71, 6,046-yard Belmar Golf Club.

Miami freshman Kristyna Frydlova wasted little time in making an impact for the Hurricanes, as she posted a first round score of three-under-par, 68. The Czech Republic native is tied for fifth heading into Round 2.

Frydlova tallied birdies on holes three, eight, 12, 15, 16 and 17.

Fellow Hurricane freshman Roos Haarman finished Round 1 with an opening round score of one-over-par, 72. Haarman is tied for 29th.

Teammate Dewi Weber is also tied for 29th, following a first-round 72.

Sophomores Renate Grimstad and Macarena Aguilera rounded out the Hurricanes’ lineup, as they tied for 50th (75) and 71st (80), respectively.

Miami begins Round 2 competition tomorrow at 11:50 ET and will tee of on hole No. 10.
