The Hurricanes were playing in their first game in 21 days and trailed at half time, 16-10. Former Miami head coach Butch Davis will face off against the Hurricanes for the first time since taking over at FIU prior to the 2017 season. 2006: Miami hosted crosstown rival FIU in the Orange Bowl for the first-ever meeting between the two schools that are separated by less than 10 miles. The five-time national champion Hurricanes dominated the Panthers, who were just in their fifth season as a football program, as Miami quarterback Kyle Wright threw for three touchdowns to lead the Canes to a 35-0 victory over FIU.

North Carolina

The first matchup between the two teams came all the way back in 1946. 2013: The No. 10 Hurricanes entered a hostile environment at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. for a Thursday night matchup against the host Tar Heels. In a game dubbed “Zero Dark Thursday” by the Tar Heels, UNC came out in all-black uniforms and jumped out to a 20-13 lead entering the fourth quarter. Miami leads 24-5

This is Miami’s first meeting at Boston College since the 2012 season. 2001: The 2001 Miami Hurricanes are arguably the greatest college football team ever assembled, but the future national champions needed some late-game heroics from superstar safety Ed Reed to clinch a victory at Boston College that year. Four field goals from kicker Todd Sievers had the Canes ahead, 12-7, with less than a minute to play, but the Eagles were at the UM nine yard line and threatening to score. A tipped pass landed in the hands of defensive lineman Matt Walters and Reed ripped the ball from his teammates hands and he fell towards the turf and sprinted 80 yards to the end zone to score Miami’s only touchdown of the game and secure an 18-7 victory for the Canes.
