Miami Splits a Pair of Matches in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (1-1) opened the spring portion of its 2017-18 schedule on Friday, as it split a pair of matches against No. 22 Tulane and New Orleans at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
 
The Hurricanes dropped a 6-1 decision to Tulane, but rebounded in its second matchup of the day with a convincing 4-0 win over New Orleans.
 
In Miami’s matchup against Tulane (1-0), the Hurricanes fell behind early dropping a pair of doubles matches. Miami’s tandems of Christian Langmo/Dane Dunlap and Tatsuki Shimamoto/Nile Clark both suffered 6-2 losses.
 
Tulane continued its momentum into singles competition as the Green Wave claimed victories in five of the six singles matches.
 
Freshman Adria Soriano captured the Hurricanes lone point against Tulane, playing in the No. 3 position. Soriano posted a straight set victory over No. 46-ranked Luis Erlenbusch, winning 7-6 (8-6), 6-1. With the win, Soriano picked up his ninth win in singles competition.
 
Redshirt sophomore Dane Dunlap nearly took down Tulane’s Hamish Stewart, but dropped the tiebreaker while competing in the fourth position.
 
In the second match of the day, Miami wasted little time jumping out to a 1-0 lead over New Orleans, as it claimed the doubles point. The Miami duos of Bojan Jankulovski/Soriano and Dunlap/Langmo posted wins of 6-0 and 6-3, respectively.
 
In singles play, Jankulovski collected his eighth win of the year as he competed in the No. 2 position, downing Christian Fjeldstad in straight sets (6-1, 6-0). Dunlap improved to 6-4 on the year thanks to his win over Nicolas Kramer (6-1, 6-1) in the No. 4 spot.
 
Miami claimed the head-to-head win over New Orleans thanks to senior Niclas Genovese’s win over Giacomo Adoncecchi (6-3, 6-2) in the No. 5 position. With the win, Genovese improved to 6-3 on the year.
 
Miami returns to action on Sunday with a trip to Mississippi State. The match is set to begin at Noon.
