Miami Men’s Tennis Falls 5-2 at No. 14 Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (1-2) closed out its opening weekend with a 5-2 loss against No. 14 Mississippi State at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre Sunday afternoon.

“We played a very good MSU team today,” head coach Aljosa Piric said. “I am happy with the way our guys battled. I am proud of each and every one of their efforts. This group of guys will continue to get better. They are fighters and that’s what our team is all about.”

The Hurricanes opened the day on a high note as they captured the doubles point thanks to a 6-1 win by Bojan Jankulovski/Adria Soriano and a 7-6 triumph by Dane Dunlap/Christian Langmo.

Miami battled hard in singles competition as Hurricane individuals pushed their opponents to the third set in three of the six singles matches. Despite the strong effort, Miami individuals dropped five of the six singles matches.

Senior Niclas Genovese picked up the Hurricanes lone singles point as he defeated MSU’s Florian Broska (6-3, 3-6, 6-3). With the win, Genovese improved to 7-4 on the year.

Miami returns to action on Feb. 2, as it welcomes Georgia Southern to the Neil Schiff Tennis center for its 2018 home opener. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
