McKendry Selected as ACC Pitcher of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore righthander Evan McKendry was selected as Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for his outstanding performance on the hill against No. 1 Florida on Sunday, the conference office announced.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. This is the first career weekly league honor for McKendry and the second straight week a Hurricane has been selected; junior outfielder Danny Reyes was named ACC Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 19.

McKendry won a pitcher’s duel with the most impressive outing of his career to help Miami win the series finale and hand the top-ranked Gators their first loss of the season.

The sophomore from Pembroke Pines, Fla., twirled six efficient innings, needing just 87 pitches and striking out eight batters for the second straight start.

Florida’s first hit did not come until the fifth, and the sophomore allowed just two hits and two walks on the afternoon to lead Miami to victory.

McKendry is 1-1 on the season with 16 strikeouts compared to four walks. His ERA is 3.86 and he is holding opposing hitters to a paltry .167 average.

McKendry and the Hurricanes return to the diamond Wednesday with a midweek contest at FAU. First pitch for the game, slated for broadcast on 790 The Ticket and WVUM 90.5, is set for 6:30 p.m. from FAU Baseball Stadium.
