CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team posted its seventh win in the past eight outings by topping No. 46 NC State, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

No. 31 Miami (9-4, 5-1 ACC) won the doubles point and each of the first three singles matches to quickly clinch the victory, moving to 16-0 all-time against the Wolfpack.

“I think we did a great job. [This was our fifth] match in 10 days,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “I just think, emotionally and physically, the girls were definitely a little spent. So, to be able to come out and play a feisty and hard-working team like NC State and get the ‘W’ was big for us.”

The Hurricanes hastily earned the first win in doubles play, as sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba and junior Daniella Roldan cruised past Adriana Reami and Amanda Rebol, 6-2.

“I was very happy with Dani today, stepping into the one spot and just playing solid doubles,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Stela has been doing an unbelievable job.”

Senior Sinead Lohan and junior Ana Madcur sealed the doubles point for Miami with a 6-3 victory over the NC State (9-9, 2-3 ACC) duo of Bianca Moldovan and Tayla Stenta.

When play was halted, sophomore Dominika Paterova and freshman Ulyana Shirokova were deadlocked with Taylor Bridges and Claudia Witorkin, 6-6, before the tiebreaker started.

No. 18 Perez-Somarriba rolled to a dominant 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Reami to move to 15-0 on the spring and double the Hurricanes’ lead.

Roldan and Lohan finished their matches minutes apart to clinch the win for Miami. The former, Roldan, posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Moldovan to record her second dual match singles triumph as a Hurricane.

A native of Waterford, Ireland, Lohan then locked up the victory a day after St. Patrick’s Day by defeating Witorkin, 6-3, 6-1. The two-time ITA All-American won eight of the final nine games to log her second victory of the weekend.

“I think we’ve got to send a huge shout-out to Sinead Lohan. She was out there playing, not feeling 100 percent and it was pretty hot today,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “I thought one, two and three [Estela, Sinead and Daniella] stepped up huge. Roldan had a big day for us; to be able to come in and play three against an ACC team and get the ‘W’ just shows you what she’s capable of doing.”

???????Rebol notched the first point of the day for the Wolfpack by taking six of the final seven games against Paterova to record a 6-0, 6-4 decision.

After having a five-match winning streak snapped Friday, Shirokova got back in the victory column with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) triumph over Stenta. In addition to dropping the first set, she also lost the first three points of the match-deciding tiebreaker before storming back.

NC State got its second and final point of the day from Bridges, who narrowly edged Madcur, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).

Sunday’s win capped a 10-day stretch in which Miami went 4-1, including 2-1 in the past five days. Four of the five opponents were ranked, with three in the top 16 and two in the top six.

“The thing I’m most proud of is just their toughness. They were resilient and they were tough,” Yaroshuk-Tews said of the victory. “It’s not easy to play that many matches and that quality of tennis in that short period of time. So, I was happy with the fight.”

The Hurricanes will play the first of three consecutive road matches Friday at 3 p.m., against No. 26 Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
