Langmo and Soriano Ranked No. 50 in the Nation

CORAL GABLES, Fla.  After just one match together, freshman Adria Soriano and senior Christian Langmo earned a top-50 ranking in the Oracles/ITA national rankings, while the latter ascended nine spots to the No. 90 ranking in singles play.

Soriano and Langmo teamed up for the first time last Sunday, defeating No. 11 Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa at UCF, 6-3, at the top of the lineup.

“Playing alongside a veteran like Christian felt really good and natural,” Soriano said. “We both have a good serve and we stayed aggressive throughout the match, which gave us enough confidence to close it out.”

In the Hurricanes’ (8-6, 0-3 ACC) only matchup last week, Langmo also bested Lovett in singles play, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, to earn the highest ranking by a Cane this season. Both the doubles and singles triumphs were 10th straight for the Boca Raton, Fla., native this spring, improving his records to 10-1 and 10-2, respectively.

“I treat every match the same,” Langmo said. “Thinking about rankings will only take my focus away from playing my game. I don’t pay attention to who I am playing or what I am ranked at any given point in the season.”

The win alongside Soriano was Langmo’ second over ranked competition, both coming against top-50 pairs. On the opening day of the season, he and redshirt sophomore Dane Dunlap bested Mississippi State’s then-No. 41 Florian Broska and Giovanni Oradini, 7-6 (7-1).

Sunday’s win was Soriano’s fifth doubles victory of the season, improving to 5-4 on the campaign. The Barcelona, Spain, native also earned his second doubles success against a ranked tandem, as he also took down then-No. 49 Niclas Braun and Trevor Foshey of Mississippi State in the opening weekend of the season. Soriano holds a 3-3 record at the No. 1 doubles position.

Miami returns to Atlantic Coast Conference play this Friday, hosting top-ranked Wake Forest at 3 p.m., at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The first weekend of a four-match homestand will be completed on Sunday against No. 23 NC State at noon.
