No. 19 Miami Dominates No. 31 Wake Forest, 6-1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 19 University of Miami women’s tennis team (9-5, 7-3 ACC) notched the 6-1 win over No. 31 Wake Forest (14-11, 5-6 ACC) on Sunday afternoon.

The Hurricanes started the match with a dominant 6-1 win on court three from Alexa Noel and Audrey Boch-Collins over Mia Ahmad and Sankavi Gownder. Leonie Schuknecht and Antonia Balzert then rolled through Krystal Blanch and Casie Wooten, 6-2, on court two to clinch the doubles point.

When play was halted, No. 49 Xinyi Nong and Isabella Pfennig were down 5-4 to Brooke Killingsworth and Marcella Cruz at the top court.

Wake Forest were first on the board in singles, after Marcella Cruz took down Antonia Balzert, 6-2, 6-3, on court three for the Demon Deacons to even the score.

Miami went on to win the remaining five courts in intense back-and-forth battles. Maria Paula Vargas notched her first win as a Hurricane after a 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over Mia Ahmad on court six. Xinyi Nong followed right behind with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, win over Sankavi Gownder at the No. 5 spot. Isabella Pfennig, ranked No. 71, secured the team win over No. 124 Brooke Killingsworth, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, for the Hurricanes’ seventh ACC win this season.

The match played out, leading to a win from Audrey Boch-Collins on court four over Nevena Carton, 6-4, 6-4, and No. 14 Alexa Noel‘s eighth ranked win of the season with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, victory against No. 25 Casie Wooten.

The Hurricanes will finish out the regular season on the roading, traveling to Virginia and Virginia Tech on April 12 and 14, respectively.
