Richards Named Freshman All-America by USA TODAY

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — University of Miami wide receiver Ahmmon Richards was recognized with 2016 Freshman All-America honors from USA TODAY, the publication announced Sunday.

Richards, who started 10 of 12 games at wide receiver, broke the 31-year-old Miami freshman receiving record set by Michael Irvin with 866 yards in the regular season.

Richards’ yardage total was the ninth-most in a single season by any Hurricane ever. He finished the regular season with 46 catches – second-most on the team – and two touchdowns, including a career-long 77-yard score against Virginia on Nov. 12.

The honor adds to a growing list of accolades for Richards, who earned All-ACC second-team honors from the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA) and third-team honors from ACC coaches.

Richards becomes the first Hurricane to earn Freshman All-America honors since Brad Kaaya was recognized by The Sporting News in 2014. Stacy Coley earned Freshman All-America recognition from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) in 2013.
