Men’s Tennis Concludes Play in Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team wrapped up competition Tuesday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.

Competing in the singles main draw title match, No. 41 Adria Soriano Barrera faced off against the nation’s 22nd-ranked singles player, Jan Zielinski of tournament-host Georgia, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The sophomore jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first set tiebreaker, but ultimately fell 6-7 (8-10). The Barcelona, Spain, native was unable to regroup in the second set, falling 6-7 (8-10), 1-6.

Despite the loss, Soriano’s second place finish locked up an automatic bid into the elite Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, held Nov. 7-11 in Surprise, Ariz.

In doubles action, sophomore Bojan Jankulvski and freshman Francisco Bastias teamed up in the semifinals against the nation’s 24th-ranked doubles team out of Florida, Johaness Ingildsen and Brian Berdusco. The duo dropped their first match as teammates, 2-6, 1-6, to the eventual Southeast Regional champions.

The Canes will return to action Nov. 9-11 at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
