Deem Announces 2019 Track & Field Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem announced the University of Miami’s 2019 track and field schedule on Monday afternoon.

The Hurricanes will compete in multiple prominent events, including the Florida Relays and the Tom Jones Invitational. Miami will also host the second annual Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge, featuring programs that are all led by female head coaches, and will host two more outdoor events.

“The 2019 schedule provides our team multiple opportunities to compete against the best teams in the nation,” Deem said.” “We’re also very excited to continue hosting our meets this year.”

Miami’s indoor season will begin at the UAB Trailblazer Invitational on Jan. 11-12, for the second year in a row. The Canes will travel to Lubbock, Texas two weeks later for the Red and Black Open on Jan. 25-26.

The Canes will compete in two meets prior to the ACC Indoor Championships when they travel to Blacksburg, Va., on Feb. 1-2 for the “Doc Hale” Elite Meet, followed by the Tiger Paw Invitational (Feb. 8-9) hosted by Clemson.

Miami will head back to Blacksburg for the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 21-23. Two weeks later, the Canes will return to Birmingham, Ala., for the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 8-9).

The outdoor season will begin with the first of three home meets as the Canes host the Hurricane Invitational on March 15-16. Miami will then host the Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge (March 23), a meet that features five Power 5 track and field programs in NCAA Division I that have a female head coach: Miami, Tennessee, Ohio State, Ole Miss and last year’s host, Southern California.

“We are excited to bring the Trailblazer Challenge to Coral Gables this season for such an honorable meet,” Deem said.

The Canes will then make their way to Gainesville, Fla., from March 28-30 for the 80th Florida Relays. Miami will host its final meet of the season at the two-day Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 12-13. Two weeks later, Miami will compete in its final regular season meet at the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville on April 26-27.

After hosting the ACC Outdoor Championships last season, the Canes will travel to Charlottesville, Va., on May 9-11 for the event. Later that month, Miami will make its first trip to Jacksonville, Fla., of the season for the NCAA East Preliminary (May 23-25). The top Miami performers aim to advance to the NCAA Championships, held in Austin, Texas, at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
