Perez-Somarriba Caps Fall Ranked Seventh, Roldan No. 82

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Estela Perez-Somarriba of the University of Miami women’s tennis team checks in at seventh in the country in the ITA’s post-fall rankings, as announced Wednesday afternoon.

The junior finished 12-2 during her stellar fall campaign, winning both the Oracle ITA Masters title and the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships back draw trophy. Perez-Somarriba, the reigning ACC Player of the Year and a two-time ITA All-American, went 40-5 during the 2018 calendar year and is 85-17 in her career.

Daniella Roldan also made her way onto the list, earning the first national singles ranking of her career. The senior, who had a superb fall season, comes in at No. 82 nationally, the 32nd-highest of 66 newcomers to the rankings.

The Hurricanes also have one ranked doubles duo, as junior Yuna Ito and sophomore Ulyana Shirokova hold the No. 51 position. It is the first national ranking for Ito, a junior college transfer, at the Division I level. The duo went 7-2 in the fall, notching a pair of top-40 triumphs.

Miami is one of 31 schools with multiple players in the singles rankings, 22 of which also have a ranked doubles pair. Seven ACC schools are in the first group, with six in the second, both one shy of the most of any league.
