Golf Inks a Trio to NLIs for Next Fall

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head golf coach Patti Rizzo announced Thursday the signing of three golfers to National Letters of Intent. The standout class features Daniella Barrett (Finland), Morgan Paskow (New Albany, Ohio) and Franziska Sliper (Norway).

“The recruiting class coming in for next fall, to me, is going to be the best class we have ever had,” Rizzo said. “All three of them are playing great and they each are considered the best in either their state or country.”

“I see a lot of natural talent from Morgan. She is also very driven and just passionate about golf, and when you have those three things going for you, you can really excel,” Rizzo said. “Daniella is the same way. Between competing in both Finland and New Zealand, and winning multiple tournaments in both countries, we are just super excited to have her compete at Miami. Franziska, she is an ace. She is a really good player. She hits super far and is a big, strong player.  I watched her play at the British Girls Championship last summer and I noticed how well she recovers and how great her demeanor was. She keeps it together and remains calm, even if something goes wrong. I think she is going to be awesome.”

Daniella Barrett

Over the past two years, Barrett has garnered four wins and 14 top-10 finishes, most recently going all three-rounds under par to capture the 2018 Finnish Ladies Amateur Championship in August. Played in her home country of Finland, Barrett carded a four-under 209, six strokes better than the tournament’s second-place finisher.

The Finland native finished as a runner-up twice in 2018 at the Audi Finnish PGA Golf Tour, while claiming a pair of titles in 2017 at the Finnish Junior Tournament Invitational and Finnish Junior Tournament Invitational. She has also represented Finland three times in the European Girls Team Championship (2015-17), as well as once at both the European Ladies Team Championship (2018) and Espirito Santo Trophy (2016).

Morgan Paskow

In 2018, Paskow was a leader of an Ohio Division 1 state championship team that broke two state records and went a perfect 187-0.

She also garnered an Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) All District First-Team selection and was the OCC Capital Division Player of the year with an average round of 71. The New Albany, Ohio, native won medalist honors in five tournaments during the 2018 season and was nominated by The Columbus Dispatch as ‘Athlete of the Week’ with a 3-under round of 69 during conference play.

Paskow was also named as a top-five finalist for The Columbus Dispatch Top Athlete of the Year after posting 21 top-five finishes during the 2017-2018 season, along with a quintet of first-place finishes.  Most notably, she tied a career-low during the season, carding a 67.

Franziska Sliper

A two-time Norwegian national junior champion (2017, 2018), Sliper has totaled 22 top-10 finishes and eight titles over the past two years.

Sliper also placed third at the 2018 Annika Invitational, most notably hitting a 1-under-par second round at the Royal Drottningholms course in Sweden. Also in 2018, Sliper placed fifth at the Portuguese Ladies Amateur.

In 2017, she captured the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy. Overall, Sliper has been the ranked the top golfer in Norway for two consecutive years (2017-18).
