No. 42 Miami Travels to No. 28 Notre Dame Friday
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will face its sixth top-30 opponent of the season Friday, as it visits No. 28 Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind.

THE SERIES
The Hurricanes’ (12-8, 3-5 ACC) 4-3 victory in Coral Gables last season cut Notre Dame’s all-time series lead to 11-10. Miami won the opening eight matches in the series, which dates back to 1964, but the Fighting Irish have come away with a win in 11 of the 13 meetings since 1996.
The Canes’ last victory in South Bend came in 2004, when they earned a 5-2 victory by winning five of the six singles matches.
HIGHLIGHTING MIAMI’S 2018 SEASON
-Last Friday, Miami edged three-time-defending national champion Virginia, 4-3, to hand the Cavaliers its first ACC defeat in Charlottesville since April 7, 2006, when Miami earned a 4-3 victory at the Snyder Tennis Center.
-For the first time since Jan. 6, 2009, the Canes have a top-20 doubles tandem, with senior Christian Langmo and freshman Adria Soriano checking in at No. 18 in the Oracle/ITA rankings. The Hurricanes are ranked No. 42 as a team, their highest ranking since March 23, 2014. The team is ranked for third consecutive week.
-Soriano and Langmo remain ranked in singles play as well, checking in at No. 98 and 118, respectively. Langmo has been ranked in each of the last four editions of the rankings.
-The win at Virginia was Miami’s third over a ranked opponent in 2018 after home triumphs against then-No. 23 NC State and then-38 Louisville.
-Miami freshmen have captured 34 singles wins this spring. Freshman Bojan Jankulovski, who was ranked No. 101 on Feb. 4, leads the team this spring, owning a team-best 15-5 singles record, including a team-best 6-2 singles record in ACC play.
-Miami’s 6-2 start to the season was the Hurricanes’ best start since 2013.
-The Hurricanes, who are 10-1 at home, posted a seven-match win streak in Coral Gables for the first time since 2014, when the Hurricanes won nine straight between Feb. 22 and March 25.
LAST TIME OUT
Miami played indoors for the first time this season and suffered its heaviest defeat of the season, falling to Virginia Tech, 7-0, in Blacksburg, Va. The loss ended the Canes’ four-match win streak.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Fighting Irish (13-11, 4-4 ACC) are sitting in eighth place of the conference standings and come into the weekend following a 5-2 win over then-No. 18 Duke, improving their home record to 9-3. Notre Dame has lost only one of the last seven matches in the Courtney Tennis Center, a 6-1 defeat to then-No. 5 North Carolina on March 23.
No. 36 Alex Lebedev is the only ranked Notre Dame player, sporting a 7-9 singles record this spring.
