Soriano, Miami Earn Season-High Oracle/ITA Rankings

CARY, N.C.  The University of Miami men’s tennis team checks in at No. 39 in the Oracle/ITA rankings Tuesday, breaking into the top 40 of the rankings for the first time over four years.

With a nine-spot ascent from last week, the Hurricanes (14-11, 4-8 ACC) matched their highest ranking since March 25, 2014, after defeating then-No. 22 Duke Friday for their second top-25 triumph this season.

Miami is ranked in the top 50 for the fifth straight week, surpassing the 2014 team’s achievement of four consecutive weeks with a top-50 ranking.

In singles, freshman Adria Soriano registered his new career-best ranking at No. 67, besting his previous best achievement from April 3 by one spot.

Soriano and senior Christian Langmo, the Canes’ top doubles tandem, were one of the six Atlantic Coast Conference tandems in the top 25 this week, checking in at No. 22.

Miami was one of 10 ranked ACC teams in the latest edition of the Oracle/ITA rankings, placing ahead of No. 44 Louisville and No. 48 Virginia, both teams the Canes beat in the regular season.
Top-ranked Wake Forest continued to lead the pack, as it has all season, followed by No. 6 North Carolina, No. 11 Florida State, No. 22 NC State and No. 24 Notre Dame. Duke dropped nine spots to check in at No. 29, while Virginia Tech claims the No. 31 spot this week.

The 10th-seeded Canes will enter postseason Thursday against seventh-seeded NC State in the second round of the ACC Championships. The match will begin at 5 p.m. at the Cary Tennis Center, which will host the entire five-day tournament starting Wednesday.
