Canes Duo Meets Arkansas Pair in NCAA Doubles Championship

CORAL GABLES, Fla.  University of Miami senior Christian Langmo and freshman Adria Soriano will face Arkansas’ Oscar Mesquida and Adam Sanjurjo at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
The 30th-ranked Hurricane duo, which is Miami’s first tandem in the 32-pair field since 2008, will square off against No. 37 Mesquida and Sanjurjo at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex, where the entire tournament will take place over the course of five days, May 24-28.
 
MATCH FORMAT
 
The winner of each match in the championship will be decided in a best-of-three-set format with the third set, if necessary, coming in the form of a 10-point tiebreaker.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
 
The Miami pair, which debuted on March 18 with a victory against then-No. 11 Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa of UCF, a No. 5-8 seed in the championship, goes into the championship with a 6-7 record, including a 4-1 mark against ranked opponents. Those include three top-20 victories and two top-15 triumphs in Atlantic Coast Conference play. On March 19, Soriano and Langmo were tabbed ACC Doubles Team of the Week.
 
The Razorback duo will be Langmo and Soriano’s second straight Southeastern Conference opponent after a meeting with Florida’s then-No. 5 tandem of Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen in the second round of the NCAA Team Championship on May 12.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
 
Sanjurjo and Mesquida are Arkansas’ winningest tandem with a 7-7 record, earning six of those victories at the top of the lineup. The duo comes into the championship with three straight victories. In addition, Mesquida and Sanjurjo have won two out of three matches against nationally-ranked opposition.
 
THE BRACKET 
 
The winner of Thursday’s matchup will advance to take on the victor of the opening-round contest between No. 6 Guillermo Nuñez and Alex Rybakov of TCU, seeded No. 5-8, and Florida’s 36th-ranked pair of Duarte Vale and McClain Kessler.
