NCAA Singles Championship Draw Announced

WINSTON-SALEM., N.C. The bracket for the NCAA Singles Championship is set and University of Miami sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba will face a familiar foe in the opening round.

Ranked third nationally and seeded third in the field, Perez-Somarriba is set to play No. 29 Kate Fahey of Michigan in the Round of 64. The contest is set for Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

Perez-Somarriba met Fahey in the Elite Eight of the 2017 NCAA Singles Championship and earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory in Athens, Ga. The win gave Miami a NCAA semifinalist for the third year in a row, as Perez-Somarriba followed Stephanie Wagner (2015) and Sinead Lohan (2016).

Live stats and live video for Perez-Somarriba’s match, as well as all others in the NCAA individual championships, can be found HERE on the tournament homepage, which also has the full bracket and additional information.

The ACC Player of the Year and ITA National Player to Watch, Perez-Somarriba heads into the season-ending tournament with a 37-7 record in singles action. She is 18-4 against ranked players and 26-2 in spring matches.

This is the third consecutive year a Hurricane will open NCAA Singles Championship action against a player whom she faced the prior season en route to the Final Four.

Wagner met Texas A&M’s Saska Gavrilovska in the Sweet 16 in 2015 and the first round in 2016. Lohan took on Michigan’s Brienne Minor in the Round of 64 in both 2016 and 2017.

The only other Miami player to meet an opponent multiple times in the NCAA Singles Championship was Audra Cohen, who fell to USC’s Lindsey Nelson in the 2006 Sweet 16 and then defeated her in the 2007 national final.
