W. Tennis Finishes No. 17 in Oracle/ITA Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. For the 16th year in a row, the University of Miami women’s tennis team ended the season ranked in the top 25, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the ITA.

Extending a streak that dates back to head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ second year at the helm, Miami (18-8, 11-3 ACC) concluded the season at No. 17 in the Oracle/ITA national rankings.

This is also the 14th time during that span the Hurricanes earned a spot in the top 20 of the year-end rankings.

Miami is one of six ACC teams in the final top 25, joining third-ranked North Carolina, fourth-ranked Duke, fifth-ranked Georgia Tech, No. 16 Florida State and No. 23 Virginia.

Four other ACC teams ended the campaign in the top 40, with Wake Forest at No. 27, Syracuse at No. 31, NC State at No. 35 and Clemson at No. 38. All but one of the conference’s 15 teams concluded the year in the rankings, as Virginia Tech (No. 47), Boston College (No. 53), Notre Dame (No. 66) and Louisville (No. 68) also made the final list.

Fourteen of the Hurricanes’ 18 wins on the season came against teams that finished the year with a ranking, including nine versus top-50 foes. All eight of the team’s losses came to year-end top-25 teams, with five to top-15 opponents.

Miami made the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 12th time in 13 years in 2018 and logged at least 18 victories for the 13th time in the past 15 seasons.

The final 2018 singles and doubles rankings will be announced May 30, following the conclusion of the NCAA individual championships.
