Men’s Tennis Closes Out Campaign as No. 42 in the Nation

CORAL GABLES, Fla.  The University of Miami men’s tennis team will wrap up the memorable 2018 season as No. 42 in the nation, as announced by the Oracle/ITA rankings.

The Hurricanes (15-13, 4-8 ACC) completed their winningest campaign since 2011 and picked up their first NCAA Team Championship victory in eight years in a 4-0 rout over North Florida in an opening-round matchup May 12.

The ranking is Miami’s eighth this season, the program’s most since 2014, when the Canes were featured 14 times. Miami was among the top 50 teams four times that year, half as many as it was in 2018.

The Canes peaked at No. 39 on April 22 after a dramatic 4-3 win against then-No. 22 Duke, their second top-25 win of the season.

Twelve of the 13 Atlantic Coast Conference teams found a spot among the 75 teams featured in the final rankings of the season, headlined by national champion Wake Forest at No. 1. No. 6 North Carolina was the other ACC representative in the top 10, followed by No. 13 Florida State in the top 20.

Notre Dame, NC State and Duke finished the season right outside the top 25, checking in at No. 26, No. 29 and No. 30, respectively.

Miami ranked just below No. 40 Virginia Tech and No. 41 Virginia, with the Cavaliers only 0.17 points above the Hurricanes (18.81).

No. 49 Louisville claimed the ACC’s last top-50 representative, followed by No. 64 Clemson and No. 68 Georgia Tech, who round off the conference representation.

The Canes’ season continues through senior Christian Langmo and freshman Adria Soriano, who are competing at the NCAA Doubles Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Hurricanes duo will next be in action at 1 p.m. Friday in a Sweet 16 matchup against Florida’s Duarte Vale and McClain Kessler.
