Rizzo Releases 2018-19 Golf Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head golf coach Patti Rizzo announced the 2018-19 schedule, featuring nine tournaments prior to the ACC Championship in Greensboro, N.C.

“I am very much looking forward to this season, as we will have a very strong roster for both the upcoming 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. Last year was a little bit of a rebuilding year,” Rizzo said. “We have a very competitive schedule all year long, so playing with the top teams will definitely prepare us for ACC’s, Regionals and Nationals.”

Miami opens the year at the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 15-16) in East Lansing, Mich., for the second time in three years. During the 2016-17 season opener, UM finished as the tournament champions, while senior Dewi Weber placed atop the individual leaderboard.

The Hurricanes will then make a repeat appearance at the Schooner Fall Classic (Sept. 28-30) in Norman, Okla., before hitting the green at the Illini Invitational (Oct. 8-9) in Medinah, Ill. Miami will close out the fall ledger with a trip to San Marcos, Texas, for the Jim West Challenge (Oct. 28-29).

The spring campaign tees off in Tampa, Fla., on Jan. 28, as the Canes compete in the annual Florida Challenge. A week later, Rizzo and her squad hit the green in Orlando, Fla., for the UCF Challenge (Feb. 3-5), before teeing off at the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans, hosted by Tulane (Feb. 17-19).

March features a return to the Sunshine State for the Sun Trust Gator Invitational hosted by Florida (March 9-10) in Gainesville, before the Hurricanes close out the spring season with a trip to Argyle, Texas, at The Bruzzy Invitational (Apr. 1-2).

The ACC Championship is slated for Apr. 18-20 at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center. NCAA Regional play falls on May 6-8 at various locations, while the NCAA Championship will be held May 17-22 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.

“My job is to make my girls feel confident and trust that they are one of the best. If I can convince them of that, they have enough skill to actually make it a reality,” Rizzo said. “I feel that the next two upcoming years will be the strongest teams I’ve ever had. What makes a great athlete are those that are not only gifted with talent but also gifted with a strong heart and a powerful mind.”

The Hurricanes competed in the NCAA Regionals last year and bring back five student-athletes from last season’s youthful squad.
