CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Quick Hits gives University of Miami volleyball fans an inside scoop on the latest additions to the Hurricanes’ roster.

As the season approaches, we get to know yet another freshman this week. Sophie Walls, the Houston, Texas, is featured on this week’s edition of Quick Hits after catching up with Maya Sullivan last week. Read more to find out the four nicknames Walls has entering her first season with the Canes.

Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to attend the University of Miami?

A: The high academic standards expected of the student-athletes, the beautiful campus, amazing fan base and family-like environment .

Q: What has been your favorite part of being a Hurricane?
A: Having an unlimited amount of resources on campus. 

Q: Has anyone taken you under their wing, shown you around and helped with your transition to college? If so, who, and how have they helped you adjust?
A: All of the upperclassmen on the volleyball team and even strangers have showed me the ropes on how to manage time better and get to classes faster.

Q: What has been the biggest adjustment for you since you arrived?
A: Biking, walking, and ubering everywhere instead of driving.

Q: Are there any classes you are taking so far that you like? 
A: Right now I’m only in one class (public speaking) and its interesting how different both the size and dynamics of the class work compared to high school. 

Q: What made you choose your major? 
A:I have always had a passion for sports and I know I want to be around it the rest of my life. 

Q: What are you most excited for about being in college?  
A: Meeting new people and traveling to different states for volleyball matches.  

Q: What do you like to do outside of your sport?  
A: Watch Netflix, hangout with friends, sleep, and workout

I committed to Miami over other schools because:
 you honestly can’t beat the academics, the amazing coaches and the opportunities Miami has to offer.  
When I think of Miami volleyball, I think of: a hard-working, technique-driven and coachable group of girls.  
My favorite part of being a Hurricane student-athlete is: knowing that you have endless support, whether it’s in the classroom, on the court or just if you need someone to talk to. 
If I had to describe the team in one word it would be: leaders 
Coral Gables is different from my hometown because: the closest beach is only twenty minutes away compared to two hours. 
When I committed to the University of Miami, I felt: complete and knew I made the right decision.  
I love volleyball because: it has taught me many life lessons, pushed me over countless obstacles and has given me lifelong friends.  
My favorite moment in my volleyball career was: going to the state tournament in the top division my senior year and making the UIL State Tournament team.
