Baseball Announces Fall Game against FAU

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head baseball coach Gino DiMare announced a fall matchup against the FAU Owls.

The Hurricanes will host FAU at 1 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. This will serve as Miami’s lone game against another university in the fall, but the Canes will participate in the annual Orange and Green World Series in November.

“We play a number of intrasquad games throughout the fall, which are very important, but this game will be the one time we can get that real game-like feel and atmosphere to it,” DiMare said. “This game will allow our players to compete with outside competition and give our coaches a better sense of where we stand at this early stage. We are thrilled to have this opportunity.”

DiMare enters his first season at the helm of the Miami baseball program, but the former standout outfielder has more than 20 years of experience with the Canes. DiMare played for College Baseball Hall of Fame coach Ron Fraser from 1989-92 and served as an assistant on Jim Morris’ staff for 19 seasons — including the 1999 and 2001 national championship teams. Since 2011, DiMare has served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator in addition to his duties working with Miami’s hitters and outfielders.

Miami features a talented roster in 2018 that includes All-ACC right-handed pitcher Evan McKendry and 2017 Freshmen All-America selections Freddy Zamora, Daniel Federman and Isaac Quiñones. Zamora was also named to the 2017 ACC All-Freshman team.

The Canes also brought in a talented recruiting class of 15 newcomers, 11 freshmen and four junior college transfers, that are expected to compete and contribute immediately.
