Miami Hosts Wake Forest to Begin ACC Play

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –  The University of Miami volleyball program begins ACC play on Friday night against Wake Forest at 7 p.m., at the Knight Sports Complex.

The Canes return to “The Knight” for the first time since the opening weekend of the 2018 season with a 4-3 overall record and a two-match win streak after securing two road wins at the Islander Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Junior transfer Bridget Wallenberger’s productivity on both offense and defense earned her All-Tournament MVP honors, while redshirt senior Haley Templeton and freshman Emily Damon were also named to the All-Tournament team.

The three Canes have continued to provide sparks for Miami after seven matches. Wallenberger’s 30 blocks, Templeton’s 242 assists and Damon’s 85 digs and 10 service aces are all team-leading stats.

Freshman Chloe Brown is another Cane to look out for entering ACC play. The 2017 Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year leads the Canes with 76 kills, averaging 3.3 kills per set.

Friday night’s match against the Deacons will be the 23rdmeeting between the two schools with Miami leading the series, 18-4. Miami earned a 3-0 road win last season against Wake Forest and has won the last 10 of 11 matches.

Wake Forest enters ACC play with a 5-7 record, winning four of their last five matches, but are in search of their first road win of the season. The Deacons’ outside hitters Myca Mitchell and Caroline Rassenfoos both have over 100 kills on the season, but the Deacons side are hitting just a .186 hitting percentage.

Following Friday’s match, Miami will return to the Knight Sports Complex on Sunday at 2 p.m., against Duke. Duke opens conference play against Florida State with a 6-3 record before facing the Canes.

The University of Miami – Coral Gables Campus has introduced an updated parking policy for the 2018-19 school year. Enforcement is now extended to seven days a week, 8 a.m. to just 11 p.m. PayByPhone and additional pay stations are available across all campus parking lots and garages to facilitate visitor parking.
