Spring Football: Day One Recap

Spring Football: Day One Recap

Hear from the Hurricanes as they opened up day one of spring football inside the IPF.

Head Coach Manny Diaz on what ‘The New Miami’ is all about…

“Everyone feels the passion of what’s going on. Inside this building, I think it is summed up by the Miami standard. That’s really what it’s about. That’s a tangible thing. It’s a measurable thing that we can hold our guys and account for every day.”

Offensive coordinator Dan Enos on on the players’ adjustments to the new system…

“As they say, ‘Rome was not built in a day.’ So, we didn’t expect to come out here and be clean, 100-percent clean. And certainly we were not that. But I do think there [are] a lot of guys that…have been very eager to learn. They have been a really good group to work with, thus far.

Senior linebacker Shaquille Quarterman on playing under Manny Diaz…

“Being around him the past three years, you knew he was a head coach before anything. So seeing him do it now, I’m happy for him and very proud of him and I’m glad I’m here to be able to go through it with him. He’s going to do great things. I’m just excited about what’s in store.”

Sophomore tight end Brevin Jordan on the differences in the new offense…

“Schematically, it’s more intense, more thinking. Once you get the whole offense down, it’s going to be insane. We’re going to put up numbers.”

Senior linebacker Michael Pinckney on Shaq coming back and how much of a factor that was…

“I just told him, ‘I need you to let me know what you’re going to do. If you leave, I’m still going to think about leaving. If you stay, I’m with you.’ Coach Diaz coming back solidified it.”

Junior running back DeeJay Dallas on the mentality Dan Enos has preached to the offense…

“Just holding each other accountable – coaches holding players accountable. Players holding coaches accountable.  That’s what the standard is here.”
