Christodoulou Wins Javelin at Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami track and field team concluded day one of the Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge competing in three field events on their home track. 
 
Senior Andreas Christodoulou won the men’s javelin throw on his third attempt with a mark of 59.11m. The Cypress native scored 10 points for the men’s team with his first-place finish after competing in his first javelin event of the outdoor season. 
 
On the women’s side, senior Michelle Atherley scored four team points after her fourth-place finish in the women’s javelin throw. Atherley’s mark of 34.99m was good for a new personal-best mark and moved her up in Miami’s all-time best list to No. 4. Atherley entered today’s event with the fifth-best mark which she set in 2017. 
 
Five Canes entered the women’s shot put, as Debbie Ajagbe, Selina Dantzler, Zakiya Rashid, Sherry Lubin and Hannah-Sophia Hall all reached the finals in the field of 14. Dantzler finished third, scoring six points for the women with her mark of 15.20m. Ajagbe finished right behind Dantzler in fourth-place with a mark of 15.16m, adding four more points. Hall and Lubin finished fifth and sixth with marks of 15.01m and 14.87m, respectively. 
 
The Miami women finished Day 1 of the Trailblazer Challenge with 17 points, while the men finished with 10. 
 
The action continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the men’s and women’s high jump and will conclude with the men’s 4x400m relay at 3:40 p.m.
