W. Tennis Ascends to No. 21 Nationally

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team jumped four spots to No. 21 in the Oracle/ITA rankings, as announced Tuesday afternoon.

The four-position increase is the best of any team in the top 30. The move comes on the heels of Miami logging a 7-0 victory over Louisville and a 6-1 triumph against then-No. 19 Virginia.

Miami, which has now risen eight spots over the last three poll releases, is one of seven ACC teams in the top 25. The Hurricanes are joined by second-ranked North Carolina, third-ranked Duke, ninth-ranked NC State, No. 11 Florida State, No. 22 Wake Forest and No. 23 Virginia.

Additionally, Syracuse is No. 30, Georgia Tech is No. 38, Boston College is No. 40 and Notre Dame is No. 46, giving the league 11 ranked teams.

Junior Estela Perez-Somarriba, now 21-3 in her spring campaign, held steady at second nationally on the singles list. It is the fifth straight release the reigning ACC Player of the Year sits one position away from the top spot.

In doubles, freshman Daevenia Achong and senior Daniella Roldan ascended to season-high No. 16 ranking. Their four-spot jump, which comes after logging a fifth ranked win together, is tied for the third-largest of any top-20 pair.

The Hurricanes will be back on the court Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against a to-be-determined foe in ACC Championship competition in Cary, N.C.
