The winner of Thursday’s match moves on to the ACC Championship quarterfinals to take on fourth-seeded and ninth-ranked NC State Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Miami heads into the tournament with one ranked singles player, as junior Estela Perez-Somarriba continues to sit at second nationally. In doubles, freshman Daevenia Achong and senior Daniella Roldan come in at a season-best No. 16 in the Oracle/ITA rankings.

The Hurricanes are 20-1 all-time versus the Tigers, including 1-0 in ACC Championship play, logging a 5-1 decision last year on April 27, 2018. Earlier this season, on March 3, Miami notched a 6-1 road triumph against the Hokies.

Miami is 17-13 all-time in ACC Championship action, including 16-11 in Cary. The Hurricanes have reached the semifinals 10 times, including each of the past four years, while advancing to the final on six occasions and earning one title in 2013.

After defeating No. 12-seed Clemson, 4-3, in the opening round of tournament play Wednesday, Virginia Tech is 9-15 (2-12 ACC) on the season. The Hokies’ triumph over the Tigers snapped a three-match losing skid.

Virginia Tech has one ranked singles player, with Natalie Novotna placing No. 88 in the country. Novotna is also part of the team’s lone ranked doubles pair, taking the No. 78 spot alongside Rita Pinto.
