Baseball Cracks USA Today Coaches Poll

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball program is ranked for the second consecutive week, entering the top 25 in two different polls released Monday.
 
The Hurricanes (27-14, 11-10 ACC) made their debut at No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and dropped one spot to No. 24 in the D1Baseball Top 25. Miami moved up two spots to No. 22 in the NCBWA Division I Poll and just missed another top 25, coming in 26th in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Div. I Baseball Poll.
 
Miami went 2-2 in the week, beating FGCU 13-4 on Tuesday to sweep their midweek season series and taking one of three games at then-No. 8 Louisville.
 
The Hurricanes were very competitive against the consensus top-10 Cardinals. Miami brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth in Game 1, a 7-5 Louisville win. Game 2 went in favor of the Canes, 16-11, and Miami opened Game 3 with a six-run first inning before falling 9-6 in the finale.
 
The Canes enter the week ranked 14th in RPI and 10th in strength of schedule according to Warren Nolan.com
 
Miami is home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday against FIU to begin an eight-game homestand. ACC foe Virginia Tech heads to Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field this weekend and Miami will host Bethune-Cookman from May 3-5 before closing the home stretch against UCF on May 8.
