Second Varsity Four Wins Bronze at ACC Championship

CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Miami rowing team earned a bronze medal at the 2019 ACC Rowing Championships Saturday morning.

Miami’s Second Varsity Four headlined the five Hurricane boats racing on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina this weekend, taking third place in the grand final with a time of 7:36.821. As a team, Miami finished tied for seventh with North Carolina with 30 points. Tessa White-Parsons was named Second Team All-ACC at the conclusion of the 2019 ACC Championship.

“The team had a mix of racing results this weekend,” head coach Dave Sanderson said. “The 1V had a great effort in their heat but, unfortunately, came up just short of making the final. The 1V4 had an outstanding heat and advanced to the grand final where they ultimately finished 6th. The best performance of the weekend came from the 2V4. The crew had a great heat and then stepped up again to earn a bronze medal in the grand final. Although the results were mixed, I’m excited for the future of the squad. The team is young and they just gained valuable experience at this championship regatta that will serve as a strong foundation for stronger results next season.”

Miami’s Varsity Four also competed in a grand final on Saturday, placing sixth with a time of 7:48.162. The Canes finished behind Duke, Syracuse, Virginia, Clemson and Notre Dame.
