Gandara Releases 2019 Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball program is set to host the Hurricane Invitational and nine ACC home matches as part of its 2019 schedule released on Monday. 
 
The Hurricanes will travel to Puerto Rico for the second straight season for the Puerto Rico Classic and will play Missouri in two matches, scheduled for Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. 
 
“We’re really excited about the schedule we put together for this upcoming season,” Miami head coach Jose “Keno” Gandara said. “We have a great non-conference slate of matches that will prepare us for conference play this season and I’m excited to see what we’re able to accomplish.” 
 
Miami will open up regular season home play hosting the three-day Hurricane Invitational from Sept. 6-8 at the James L. Knight Sports Complex. The Canes will play George Washington Sept. 6 at 7:30 for their first home match of the 2019 season. Miami will close out the tournament against USF on Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. Both of Miami’s matches will be streamed by the ACC Network. 
 
The Canes are then scheduled for two back-to-back road tournaments when they travel to TCU for the Add-Ran Cup and UCF for the Sunshine State Challenge. Miami will face host school TCU on Sept. 13 for an 8 p.m. match and will close out the tournament facing Auburn on Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. 
 
After hosting the Sunshine State Challenge last season, the Canes will travel north to Orlando, Fla., to face FGCU (Sept. 20, 10 a.m.), FAU (Sept. 20, 4:30 p.m.) and host school UCF (Sept. 21, 11 a.m.) in the two-day tournament.
 
Gandara’s squad will begin ACC play on the road against Wake Forest on Sept. 27 at 6 p.m., followed by a match at Duke at 1 p.m. on Sept. 29. Miami will return home after three straight weekends on the road to face the 2018 ACC champion, Pittsburgh, on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. and Virginia on Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. 
 
Miami will close out the month of October with five of its seven matches away from home, including a road stint against North Carolina (Oct. 11, 6:30 p.m.) and NC State (Oct. 13, 1 p.m.). The lone home matches are scheduled against Syracuse (Oct. 18, 7 p.m.) and Boston College (Oct. 20, 1 p.m.). 
 
The Canes will then play three straight road matches against Clemson (Oct. 25, 7 p.m.), Georgia Tech (Oct. 27, 1 p.m.) and Florida State (Oct. 30). The match against in-state rival FSU will be televised on the ACC Network at 7 p.m. October will conclude against Virginia Tech on Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. 
 
Miami’s last five of six matches will be held in the Knight Complex beginning with a match against Louisville on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. and Notre Dame on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. The Canes’ second match broadcast on ACC Network will be against NC State on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. 

In the final regular season road match of the season, Miami will travel to Louisville on Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. 
 
Miami will face FSU for the second time in the 2019 season for a midweek match on Wed., Nov. 27 at 3 p.m. The 2018 season was the first time under Gandara the Canes only faced the Seminoles once in a season.  The last regular season match of the season is scheduled against Georgia Tech on Nov. 29 at 3 p.m.
