Rowing Finishes Strong at Lake Wheeler Invite

RALEIGH, N.C. – Miami rowing completed its weekend at the Lake Wheeler Invite with strong finishes Saturday, April 27. UM’s second varsity eight and first varsity eight boats finished second and third respectively, defeating schools such as Alabama and Iowa in each race.

The first varsity four finished just off the pace of another top three time, clipping Iowa and Washington State while placing only two seconds behind Boston.

The Canes’ second varsity eight defeated Alabama by over four seconds, taking second to No. 5 Tennessee. The day concluded with the first varsity eight placing third of six programs. Miami crossed the line in 6:42.570, clipping Alabama while coming up just short of Washington State’s time.

Miami will prepare for the ACC Championships back at Lake Wheeler May 17-18.

“We had a tough start to the regatta yesterday morning, but I’m really proud of how every crew rebounded,” head coach James Mulcahy said. “We didn’t get the start we needed Friday morning, but every subsequent race we came back stronger, harder and better. I thought we ended it on an extremely positive note today. I’m really proud of the crew for showing a lot of grit and tenacity. We are now absolutely focused and excited on continuing this trend of improvement going into ACC Championships.”
