CAREER: Excellent student-athlete who did whatever was asked of him throughout his college career…consistently excelled in the off-season conditioning program…combines size with a growing frame…added almost 50 pounds of muscle during his time in the Miami program…also a standout performer in the classroom who was a four-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team…did not begin playing varsity football until the 11th grade of high school.

 

2002 (SENIOR): Played in several games as a reserve lineman on both sides of the football…in five games of play on defensive, was credited with six tackles…had four tackles at Temple…played mainly at tackle, seeing extensive action against Temple, Florida A&M and Connecticut.

 

2001 (JUNIOR): Played in seven games as a reserve offensive lineman…played mainly at guard, seeing extensive action against Rutgers, Syracuse and Washington…named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, one of a league-high 10 Hurricanes to earn the accolade.

 

2000 (SOPHOMORE): Played in nine games as a reserve defensive lineman…made one tackle, a stop for a two-yard loss in the win at Rutgers…one of a league-best 10 Hurricanes named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.

 

1999 (FRESHMAN): Appeared in three games as a reserve defensive end…assisted on three tackles for the season and had one quarterback hurry…two of his assisted tackles occurred in the home opener against Florida A&M…registered an assisted tackle in the regular season finale against Temple…earned BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors.

 

1998 (REDSHIRT): One of 15 members of the 1998 recruiting class to redshirt.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Chaminade Madonna College Preparatory… SuperPrep Florida preseason Top 100…Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel Defensive Player of the Year…Miami Herald Defensive Player of the Year..second-team All-State…Sun-Sentinel and Miami Herald first-team All-County…two-time first-team All-Conference selection… recorded 76 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 17 sacks and four fumble recoveries during senior season…also blocked four kicks as a member of the special teams unit…named team captain as a senior…Brian Piccolo Award winner as top student-athlete in Broward County…also earned four varsity letters in basketball…led team in scoring and rebounding as a senior…coached by Roger Mitchell.

 

PERSONAL: Born 3/14/80…biomedical engineering major…full name is James Richard Wilson…high school academic honors student…member of the National Honor Society…senior class president…father, Jay, played center and guard for the Hurricanes (1967-71)…selected Miami over Stanford, Vanderbilt, Clemson and Georgia Tech…son of Jay and Joan Wilson.
